Terminator Salvation - The Future Begins

The fourth movie in the Terminator series will be released on 22 May 2009, film studio bosses have announced.

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins features Batman star Christian Bale as rebel leader John Connor, leader of the human resistance.

Charlie's Angels director McG will take the helm on the movie, which is expected to be the first in a new Terminator trilogy. Many have questioned the choice of director, after ther terrible Charlie's Angel Full Throttle.

Production will begin in May this year in New Mexico in the US and will be the biggest film ever shot in the state.

The last Terminator movie - Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - starring California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, was released in 2003 and earned $150.4m in the US.

Christian Bale has won acclaim for reinvigorating the Batman franchise, and it is hoped that he can do the same. Terminator 3, the rise of the machines, was met with widespread criticism in that it lacked originality and added nothing new to the series. It is hoped that this new film will explore the post apocalyptic war against the machines in a way hinted at in the first two films.
