28 weeks later review

28 Weeks Later is the much anticipated follow up to the 2002 indie hit, 28 Days Later.

The rage virus has decimated the population of the United Kingdom, but luckily didnt spread beyond the UK, leaving the rest of the world pretty much unharmed. However with a large number of UK refugees now living in other countries it was only a matter of time before thoughts turned to retaking the country.

The film features around London and a US military base set up to begin the process of cleaning up the infection. Since most, if not all of the infected, have by now starved to death safe zones are established and civilians moved back.

Without giving too much away things start to go from bad to worse as the infection returns in an even more agressive form.

The film once again does a great job of portraying an abandoned and decimated London, with an eery feel to it. The pace is good, with central characters being developed with any noticible lulls.

That is not to say that there arent problems, one of the key ones is why characters do what they do. For example, why not use tanks? Why go into a dark and deserted Underground station? These are other things result in the deaths of key characters in pointless ways.

All in all, this film isn't the classic its predessor was, but its still very entertaining and provides a few good shock moments.
